Grumpy Old Men 2 - That Damn Internet

To clarify: I did not do the original photoshopping of Rupert and Steve.  That was taken from the linked article - I just added the appropriate title.

"Everyone who doesn’t work in the ad industry loathes advertising"

Robert X. Cringely

Marketers and Ad Sales professions get lost in their business and tend to forget that, for the most part, consumers don’t give a shit about their hard work on ad integrations. If it doesn’t put the consumer first, the concept is dead before its even developed.

From an article about forced advertising participation

In and Out Burger VS. Shake Shack

willschneider:

I wasn’t going to elaborate on my In and Out Burger experience while visiting LA a couple weekends ago, but after eating Shake Shack for lunch today, I feel like I have to.

Im not in this to make friends or enemies so sorry if you this falls on sensitive ears, but after tasting both burgers I can not understand why In and Out Burger is even considered a rival of Shake Shack in burger craft. The East coast West Coast pride thing i get, but honestly, in my opinion, In and Out burger more closely compares to some regional fast food chain than the NYC Institution Shake Shack.

I ate a double double, what I saw as the closest counterpart to my regular Shake Shack double shackburger, and to me it was simply two thin not-so-special burger patties on an over toasted bun with fries that were, straight up, not very good. It was certainly nice to walk straight up to the counter and have my burger within five minutes, but if that’s the shtick I can just as easily walk down to the 14th street wendy’s and have a (more?) satisfying experience.

I AM anxious to give it another try, because i know plenty of people who’s opinion i value are In and Out burger lifers, and to sample a variation of the ‘not-so-secret menu,’ but for now, and for the foreseeable future, I am all Shake Shack.

I’m 100% with Will on this one.  I think In-n-out is delicious, and i make it a point to get every time I’m out on the west coast, but shake shack reigns supreme in my book.

The Box Elders - Alice and friends

As is the case with a lot of songs I like, sit tight until the chorus - it’s worth the wait. I mean, who doesn’t like a good chorus?

British artist Stephen Wiltshire is currently attempting to draw the Manhattan skyline from memory. since Monday October 26th. Wiltshire began filling in an 18 foot canvas at the Pratt institute, Brooklyn. The drawing is expected to be complete by Friday. You can follow his progress through the live webcam here. Wiltshire diagnosed with autism at the age of three displays an unusually powerful photographic memory that he has applied to rendering city scapes. He can look at the subject of his drawing once and reproduce it accurately with photographic detail, down to the exact number of columns or windows on a building. He memorizes their shapes, locations and the architecture.

This is absolutely incredible.  Autism seems to be somewhat of a mystery as far as why so much detailed information is able to be retained.  In the view of artistic endeavors, it blows the normal brain away.  Here’s a video of Stephen taking a flight over rome and redrawing it from memory

A Warm gun and a knife in the back - The Beatles/The Clash mashup

Here’s 2 segments from songs I love that I spliced together.

Both British, both changed the face of music history, both singing soulfully about seemingly violent subject matter.
